- Nominal thickness: record it as one parameter, not a standalone accuracy score.
- Format: compare strip, horseshoe, oval, or roll handling against the intended area and tools.
- Color: consider visibility against the working surface and any planned sequence, without treating color as performance evidence.
- Packaging and handling: check dimensions, storage, supply method, and current documentation.
- Availability: confirm the real product or model instead of inferring a variant from a specification list.
Interpret marks conservatively
Published research shows that indicator thickness, conditions, technique, and operator interpretation can affect the record. A paper mark is useful qualitative information, but mark size or darkness should not be treated alone as a numerical force measurement. If a decision requires quantitative timing or force data, articulating-paper appearance alone does not provide that information.
